Interested in "Pinning"

The other day when I was out with my mother shopping we were talking about social media and how it is influencing our professional life. I started telling her about ALES204 and she asked if I had done anything in this class on Pinterest. I replied no and she began telling me about it. Pinterest is a social media photo sharing outlet where members create electronic photo pin boards. These photos can be from their own computer that they took themselves or from other websites that they liked. The photos range from recipes to clothing to funny pictures. People are free to share whatever they want with the rest of the world. I was so intrigued by this I even requested a membership. (To be a member you need to either be invited by another member or request an invitation.)

I even saw other ALES204 students discussing this website on their blog and in class. While doing so research on Pinterest, I came across Brittany's blog, a fellow ALES student, that also discussed Pinterest. While I found this site amusing and a great way to connect and share ideas through visual means, I never really though of how it could help me in the future with my career. Reading her blog encouraged me to consider how this social media website could be used as a tool in my future.

I am working towards being an interior designer thus making visual representations and ideas of the upmost importance in my future job. Therefore, Pinterest can be a great tool for me later on. I went and looked at pin boards with words like "interiors, design, bedrooms" and I came across millions of pin boards. One even named, "My Dream House", where the user pinned all her favourite details of houses together to share the look of her fantasy home. Even some businesses are on Pinterest, showing pictures of homes they had already designed and different tools and ideas they used. All of these photos are a great way to share abilities and ideas that could be useful in the future of interior design.  I defintly see a lot of possibilities in the future with Pinterest. I think it is a new and even better way to share information to others around the world.

  2. I completely agree Erin, Pintrest can absolutely be valuable social media tool, especially in the design field. Although the communication is mostly visual, this really allows creativity to be conveyed and communicated as reading text often won't allow. Hopefully Pintrest can be incorporated into Ales204 in the future and encourage a more creative use of social media communication.

  3. Isn't it amazing how our parents are starting to get involved in social media?

I have so many friends that are obsessed with Pintrest, and I'm not using obsessed lightly. It is super cool for fashion ideas, as well as interior design ideas, and the list goes on. Because you can be connected with different people all over the world there are so many different perspectives available. Having seen how addictive other social media tools are I am hesitant to "apply" for a Pintrest account because I know how much time I already spend on Facebook looking at all of my friends new status' and pictures.

Just a quick point on some of the spelling and grammar, not a huge mix up but some of the words are not the word your looking for, maybe just have a quick read through.

I completely agree with your point that Pintrest will eventually catch on and be a great asset to future career opportunities. Best of luck!
